Large Homes, Damp and Character Rules in Remuera
Remuera spans eight census areas, from Remuera North to Remuera Waiatarua. At the 2023 Census they held 25,458 residents in 8,880 occupied homes. 46% of those homes had four or more bedrooms, and 15% had five or more. A house that size usually has an ensuite as well as the main bathroom.
18.8% of those homes were reported as damp, from 14.2% in Remuera Waiata to 23.7% in Remuera Waiatarua. Shower steam is the bathroom's share of that problem. Our full renovations include a ducted extractor fan that vents outside the house.
Parts of Remuera sit in the Special Character Areas Overlay, in the Isthmus B and Isthmus C areas. The overlay rules list external alterations or additions to a building as a restricted discretionary activity, which needs a resource consent.
