A full laundry renovation from us takes the room back to the framing and rebuilds it with new linings, flooring, cabinetry, tub, tapware and lighting.
The washing machine and dryer positions are planned around the real size of your machines, including the door swing.

Laundry Cabinetry and Benchtops
Laundry cabinetry from us is built for a damp room, with moisture-resistant carcasses, a benchtop to fold on and tall storage for the ironing board and vacuum.
A benchtop over a front-loader turns the space above the machine into working space.

Tiled Floors and Waterproofing
Tiled laundry floors get a waterproofing membrane from us before a single tile goes down, and the waterproofing membrane turns up the walls at the edges.
A floor waste lets a burst hose drain away, where the drainage under the floor allows one.
Rotten flooring under old vinyl is replaced before the new floor goes in, and you approve the price first.
Moving or Adding a Laundry
Moving a laundry to a new room, or adding one where there was none, is work we do with new water supply, waste, power and venting.
A new laundry can need a new gully trap, and Auckland Council notes that a gully trap for a new laundry may need a building consent.

Cupboard and European Laundries
Cupboard laundries behind doors in a hallway, garage or bathroom get planned by us around stacked or side-by-side machines and a compact tub.

Plumbing, Power and Dryer Venting
Laundry plumbing, power and dryer venting are renewed by us during the rebuild, while the walls are open.
Old pipework is replaced, the machine gets its own taps, and power points are moved clear of the water.
Electrical work needs a Certificate of Compliance, which the electrician issues within 20 days of finishing.

Nick measures the room and the machines, checks the drainage and the power, and asks what you need to store. No charge and no obligation.
2. Written Quote and Cabinet Plan
The quote lists every trade, every fixture and the cabinet layout. If the laundry is moving, the new drainage route is settled here.
3. Strip-Out and Rough-In
The old laundry comes out. New pipework, the waste, power points and the dryer duct go in while the walls are open.
4. Waterproofing Membrane, Then Fit-Out
On a tiled floor the waterproofing membrane goes on first. Then the tiles, cabinetry, benchtop, tub and tapware go in.
5. Laundry Handover
Nick runs the tub and the machine taps and checks the waste with you. Your machines go back in, ready for the first load.

What Sets the Cost of a Laundry Renovation in Auckland

Staying put or moving
Keeping the tub and machine where they are uses the existing waste. Moving them means new drainage, and a new gully trap can bring a consent.

Flat-pack units cost less than cabinetry made to fit the room. Tall storage and a benchtop over the machines add to both.

Why Auckland laundries work so hard
Household Size, Damp and Consent for Auckland Laundries
Some Auckland laundries wash for twice as many people as others. At the 2023 Census, households in Ormiston South averaged 5.0 people, and 55.7% of them had five or more. In Shortland Street in the CBD the average was 1.5. A laundry for a family of five needs room for a large machine, a dryer and a place to fold, so Nick sizes the layout to the household.
Every load puts water into the air. MBIE's Smarter Homes guidance says to always vent the dryer to the outside, to keep the home drier and reduce mould and condensation. Alchemy ducts vented dryers to open air and fits an extractor where the laundry has no opening window.
Auckland Council says replacing an existing sink or fixture is unlikely to need a building consent, and that a gully trap for a new laundry may need one. The plumber must hold current authorisation from the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. Alchemy does not lodge consents. You or your designer lodge the application if one is needed.
